Grades
version 2.5.3 is being released early this morning. This is just a
maintenance release intended to tie up some loose ends from version 2.5
to 2.5.2. A few bug fixes and some graphical changes that will aid in
optimizing the user experience. See full release notes on the Grades App
Page. We'd also like to point out that the pictures on the app page and
on the market have been updated to show the app running on Gingerbread,
Android 2.3 and reflects recent changes in the app. An extended list of
features has also been added to the market description. We're trying to
pack in as many feature additions as possible before the download craze
for the Spring semester begins in a few weeks so submit your feature
requests soon!

You can now find the beta version of the Import Tool for Windows and Mac at Grades Data Import.
Please let us know what you think. Along with the release of the second
import tool beta we will also be releasing Grades version 2.5.2 tonight
that will include better support for the import tool, an alteration in
the way grading is handled for Category-based courses and an easier way
to include a course in your GPA. Check the market later tonight!

The
long-awaited ability to import data from your computer to your Grades
profile is almost here. You can check on the development status of the
desktop import app at the following website: http://androidinfinity.com/gimport.aspx. Version 2.5.1 with the update for optional dates and times should be on the Market tomorrow.

We're
working hard on updating our Grades app in time for the new year and
new semester. Check back here often for notes on current progress. As
mentioned in yesterday's post, we have already updated the app to
include the "Quick Actions" menu accessible via the edit
(pencil-looking) button on the top right of the main app page and have
also added a new "Backup and Send" feature to help users prevent data
loss by being able to send backup profiles to their email address and
more with the press of a button. A new FAQ/Tutorial is coming the app in
Version 2.5.1 and should be released in the next few days. Along with
the tutorial, we hope to provide people who have phones that are stuck
on Android 1.5 with the ability to use Grades on their device with as
few bugs as possible. Version 2.5.2 which should be out in a little over
a week will include the long await ability to import courses and
assignments and entire profiles from a computer rather than having to
input everything on the app itself. This data import will be done using
CSV files to represent individual courses and because of the open nature
of the CVS format users will be able to edit a sample import file that
they can download on this site using a text editor or a spreadsheet
program like Excel, place them into the "Grades/Import" folder on their
SDCard and, with the press of a button in the app, load the new data
into their profile.

This
week marks the start of a new version of Grades: Student Organizer. The
past few months have been extremely busy for Android Infinity and we
haven't been able to update the app as often as we would have liked but
new changes are coming soon, just in time for a new semester to begin.
We've seen your comments on the Market and have done our best to respond
to every email we've gotten and it seems like there are a few people
who don't really understand how the app is supposed to work. This app
contains a ton of features for students and tries to be as flexible as
possible so that it can be effective with every type of course both
University and High School and can work with as many possible
educational systems. It isn't perfect but nine times out of ten you can
accomplish what you want with this app, it just takes a bit of a
learning curve. Because of that, we plan on implementing a tutorial for
use with the app to teach you how to use it to its potential and also
plan on including a "Quick Actions" toolbar to allow you quick access to
the major and important features of the app from the home page. Data
loss is also a concern among many of you and the majority of time this
has been an issue is when a user formats or replaces their SDCard,
because your student profile is stored on the SDCard and not on internal
phone storage (for space and upgrade concerns) we have an integrated
backup system in the app that works very well but is often not used. We
will be expanding this feature to allow for automatic backups after
every change and also periodic backups that will be able to email your
backup file to an email address of your choice. A few other minor
updates have already been made and will be released momentarily so that
item input and editing will be easier (changing the keyboard to default
to a num pad rather than the standard keyboard and empty text boxes
instead of pre-populated fields). Also, if you ever have a Force Close
please submit a bug report to us with as many details regarding the
error as possible so that we can figure out what happened, we have not
experienced any Force Closes on our test devices using any released
version of the app but because there are so many different Android
phones out there, there are bound to be problems that we can't control
unless you let us know about them via email and not with a uninformed
comment on the Market. Sorry for the long post and thanks for your
continued support of our Apps.
Update: Here are some pictures. Also, version 2.5 will be fully compatible with Gingerbread, Android 2.3!

Update 2: We have released version 2.5 on the market.
